Wildlife Outreach

Making Tracks to YOU…

Wildlife Outreach is a River Legacy Nature Center program designed to showcase a variety of native and exotic animals to illustrate the principles of ecology and life science in an educational and entertaining format. Wildlife Outreach programs are carefully designed to meet TEKS objectives and support your specific curriculum needs.

General Information:

  • Our programs are designed for ages 5 and up, for most audience sizes, and can be tailored to support your curriculum needs.

  • Requests MUST be received at least two (2) weeks in advance, however, programs can be booked up to 4-6 months in advance.

  • Our presentation options include: a group/stage presentation or a booth/stationary display.

  • Animal requests can be made, however, we cannot guarantee the appearance of a specific animal. Additionally, we cannot confirm which animals will be included in any program as there are a variety of factors that determine which animals will attend.

  • Please note that our program is NOT a petting zoo, and touching/audience participation during programs is never guaranteed.

Program Options:

This presentation focuses on the differences between reptiles and amphibians, habitat and anatomy. Students will have the opportunity to see and touch examples of live animals to gain a greater understanding of these creatures and their needs, and dispel common misconceptions.

Travel around the world through the eyes of a variety of exotic invertebrates and vertebrates. This program explores the niches and habitats of these exotic animals and relates these to their unique adaptations for survival. Students will also learn the importance of having native animals in a habitat vs. non-native animals.

Discover career options in the environmental field as you meet a River Legacy Living Science Center Teacher/Naturalist and one of our live animal ambassadors who teach our community about native wildlife species. Learn what it takes to care for our animals at the Science Center and what you can do now to prepare for a job working with wildlife.

Virtual Outreach Options:

Programs are available for public and private schools, clubs, community organizations, youth groups and community events. Outreach programming is available year-round.

  • 45-minute program

  • Live Zoom virtual wildlife outreach presentation: $150

  • Pre-recorded virtual wildlife outreach presentation: $75

How does a virtual wildlife outreach program work?

  • Naturalists connect securely to program participants via Zoom. This platform allows us to incorporate a lot of interactivity into the program and provide a more personal experience for program participants.

  • We utilize all recommended security features for Zoom meetings. During the program, participants will not be able to unmute themselves or screen share, and comments in the chat will not be visible by other program participants.

  • Live animals are right in front of the camera, giving program participants a closer look than they may get at an in-person program.

  • We will send you the Zoom link via email. You provide the link to registered families directly. We ask that you do this the day of the program. Do not post the link on a publicly visible website.

  • If you book a virtual pre recorded outreach the link will be provided the day before your scheduled program date.

Bring a Science Center naturalist and two of our live animal ambassadors to your virtual classroom. Programs will:

  • Connect to students via Zoom*

  • Correlate to the TEKS

  • Engage students for 45 minutes

  • Feature two live animals

  • Include interactivity between students and naturalist

*If your school is not able to use Zoom for security reasons we can make special accommodations for Google Meet.
